Chelsea Women are aiming to make it five straight league wins when we travel to the Midlands to take on Aston Villa today and Sophie Ingle revealed spirits are high in the Blues squad.
Chelsea currently sit second in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League table having secured league victories against Everton, Manchester United, Brighton and Leicester City.
Emma Hayes’s side also come into today’s fixture off the back of last weekend’s Vitality FA Women’s Cup semi-final triumph at Manchester City.
Ingle said: ‘It’s a very happy camp at the moment. It’s always tough having a game so close to coming back from internationals, with not much time to prepare but I thought the girls were outstanding and thoroughly deserved the result we got against City.
‘This is the only week we don’t have a midweek game, which sounds crazy but that is how busy our schedule is.
‘It’s been great for us to have a week to focus on Aston Villa. We are all feeling fresh, we’ve recovered well after a busy few weeks and we are ready for Villa.’
Today’s opponents finished 10th last season with 15 points, but under new manager Carla Ward, Villa have had a solid start to the new campaign.
The Midlands outfit have taken seven points from their opening five league fixtures and Ingle says Chelsea will have to be at our best if we are to secure our fifth straight league win this afternoon.
She added: ‘We never underestimate teams that we come up against and we always respect the opposition.
‘It’s vital that we get off to a good start against Villa and match their hard work and willingness to win the ball back quickly.
‘They are a tenacious team who work hard for each other hence why they have had some great results. We will have to at least match that with them if we want to have a chance of gaining three points.’
Today’s clash with Aston Villa kicks-off at 12.30pm and is available to watch live on the FA Player.
