Chelsea Women now know our opponents in the first knockout stage of this season’s Champions League and Sophie Ingle has reiterated it is a competition she and her team-mates are determined to win.

The Blues were drawn against Lyon in the quarter-finals earlier today.

For experienced midfielder Ingle, the target is clear.

‘The Champions League is the next aim for us as a club,’ she emphasised.

‘Domestically we have won a lot over the last three, four, five years. Now we have to try and go one better and be champions of Europe, which is a tough ask because the women’s game is growing massively.

‘We know there are no easy games now at European level.’

So far the Blues' high-water mark in the prestigious tournament is an appearance in the final in 2021, a game against Barcelona in which Ingle played.

Now with a game against last season’s Champions League winners on the horizon, tickets are available for the home leg at Stamford Bridge

Before then and prior to the return to domestic action where Emma Hayes’s side are in the running for three further trophies, Ingle and the rest of her international colleagues are heading away to play for their nations. For the Wales captain there is a tournament in Spain where she will take on Iceland, Scotland and the Philippines ahead of qualifiers for Euro 2025 further down the line.

‘The ambition is to get to a major tournament and we’ve got a few months to build now and push on,’ she said. ‘We’ll have more of a drive because we’ve been so close. I’m very excited for the next European campaign with Wales.’
