Christian Pulisic was involved throughout as USA’s stuttering start to World Cup qualification continued in Nashville.
The forward lined up for Gregg Berhalter’s side against Canada three days after the Americans had dropped points in a 0-0 draw in their group opener against El Salvador, a game in which Pulisic did not feature. It was his first appearance since the opening Premier League weekend following a positive Covid-19 test.
Back in the side, the 22-year-old was a lively attacking outlet for the hosts, working his way into the game as the USA dominated possession and hitting the woodwork with the best opportunity of the first half just before the break.
The Stars and Stripes eventually broke through with the opener after 55 minutes when Salzburg striker Brenden Aaronson converted a cross from Fulham defender Antonee Robinson.
Yet Canada hit back to earn a hard-fought point in CONCACAF qualifying for Qatar 2022 when Cyle Larin levelled just after the hour mark after brilliant play from Alphonso Davies.
Further chances came and went, leaving the USA frustrated with just two points on the board from their opening two qualifying matches, leaving them fifth in the eight-team group with only the top three advancing directly to the final tournament. Next up is a trip to Honduras on Wednesday.
