Six of our Blues were part of the England team that beat Spain 1-0 at Wembley tonight in the first match between the sides since the Women's World Cup final.

The two sides last faced each other in the summer of 2023 when Spain lifted their first Women's World Cup trophy with a 1-0 win over the Lionesses.

A packed-out Wembley Stadium watched a Lionesses team that had Hannah Hampton in goal; a back four that included Niamh Charlies, Millie Bright and Lucy Bronze; Kiera Walsh in midfield and Lauren James playing on the left side of a front three.

It looked as though Spain would go ahead on 12 minutes when the ball bounced to Lucía García eight yards out but her shot rattled against the crossbar.

And the Lionesses went ahead just after the half-hour mark when Alessia Russo rolled her defender and drove into the box. The former Chelsea striker's impressive dribble ended with her hitting the post but Jess Park bundled the ball home for the game's only goal.

Aggie Beever-Jones was an unused substitute on the night.

England are second in their Nations League group after two games, level on four points with Portugal, who Sarina Wiegman's side drew 1-1 with on Friday night.

The Lionesses' next game will be another Nations League clash, this time against Belgium at Ashton Gate in Bristol on Friday 4 April.
