Lucy Bronze was part of a resolute England defence which held reigning Olympic champions USA to a goalless draw as former Chelsea boss Emma Hayes returned to the capital.

Tonight's match at Wembley Stadium saw the teams ranked first and second in the world face each other and was played in front of a world record attendance for a women's international friendly, with 78,346 watching on.

One of the many attractions was to see our former manager Emma Hayes back in London as USWNT coach as she took on another of the best coaches on the planet, England head coach Sarina Wiegman.

Bronze was the only Chelsea player in action on the night, as Wiegman opted to start Mary Earps in goal instead of Hannah Hampton and both Millie Bright and Aggie Beever-Jones also had to settle for a place on the bench.

USWNT created the better of the opportunities on the night but Bronze and England defended well to secure the clean sheet, even if VAR had to be used to overturn a second-half penalty which was awarded.

Earlier in the day, England Under-19s beat Italy 1-0 to strengthen their hopes of reaching next summer's UEFA Women’s U19 EUROs.

England U19s will hopes to cement their place in round two of qualifying when they face Poland on Monday at 12pm GMT.
