The Chelsea midfielder, who spent the first part of the season on loan at Championship side Leicester City, finished well following a cross from the right with the goal proving to be the winner as the Italians claw out a deserved victory.
Meanwhile Nicolas Jackson featured for just over an hour as Senegal defeated Gabon 3-0 in a friendly in France.
The Chelsea star was replaced by former Liverpool man Sadio Mane, who netted the third in the Lions of Teranga’s victory.
