Mykhailo Mudryk shone for Ukraine as they defeated Albania 2-1 to jump from bottom of their group to securing a Nations League play-off place in their final pool match.

Ukraine went into the game with Albania bottom of League B Group B1 but victory saw them jump up to second, while relegating Albania to League C in the process.

The Chelsea winger featured for 85 minutes in Tirana, starting on the left flank and causing a number of problems for the Albanian defence with his direct running.

Ukraine got off to the perfect start, taking the lead through Oleksandr Zinchenko after just five minutes before doubling their advantage on 10 minutes through Olympiacos striker Roman Yaremchuk.

The hosts did pull a goal back with around 15 minutes remaining, with Rangers forward Nedim Bajrami converting a penalty, but Mudryk and Ukraine held firm to secure a big three points in the Nations League.

It means Ukraine will now take part in March's play-off matches against teams who finished third in League A for a chance to secure promotion to the Nations League top tier.

Earlier on Tuesday, Nicolas Jackson’s Senegal defeated Burundi 2-0 in African Cup of Nations qualifier, although the Chelsea striker remained on the bench throughout. Former Blues goalkeeper Edouard Mendy did feature between the sticks.

Elsewhere, there was reason for celebration for Lucas Bergstrom and Finland as they qualified for the Under-21 European Championships after a 6-3 aggregate win over Norway.

The young Chelsea goalkeeper played the full 90 minutes in Stavanger and although Finland lost the game on the night 2-1, a first leg advantage was enough to see them qualify for the major tournament on aggregate.

Already qualified Italy Under-21s were held to a 2-2 draw with Ukraine in a pre-tournament friendly, with Cesare Casadei featuring for 75 minutes.

The Chelsea midfielder played in an advanced role in La Spezia before being withdrawn with 15 minutes remaining.

Genesis Antwi was not included in Sweden Under-19s squad as they lost 2-1 to Sweden to finish bottom of their U19 European Championship first round qualification group.
