Chelsea duo Sandy Baltimore and Wieke Kaptein were both on target for their countries in Nations League action this evening, but it proved a more challenging night for our contingent of Lionesses against Belgium.

There were once again six Chelsea starters in the England line-up, with Hannah Hampton continuing in goal behind Millie Bright, Lucy Bronze, Niamh Charles, Keira Walsh, and Aggie Beever-Jones.

The Lionesses faced another match against Belgium following their 5-0 win at Wembley on Friday evening. Yet this game started very differently, as their opponents raced to a 3-0 lead after just 29 minutes.

Beth Mead converted a penalty to pull a goal back for England before half-time and, after the break, Charles and Bright were brought off by Jess Carter and Esme Morgan.

As the minutes ticked away, Jess Park was replaced by Michelle Agyemang, who scored with a fine volley just seconds into her England debut. The Lionesses pressed for an equaliser, but the early flurry from Belgium was too much to overcome as the night ended in a 3-2 defeat that leaves England second in Group A3.

Meanwhile, Kaptein got herself on the scoresheet for the Netherlands as they ran out 3-1 winners over Austria. Julia Hickelsberger had put the home side ahead after nine minutes, but 60 seconds later, Kaptein was on hand to level things up with a curling effort from outside the box.

That sent the sides in level at the break, before goals from Danielle van de Donk and Vivianne Miedema gave the Oranje the win. The Netherlands ended the day joint-top of Group A1 alongside Germany, with both countries on 10 points from four games.

Baltimore scored her second goal in two games for France during this international break, as Les Bleues beat Norway by a 2-0 scoreline. The versatile Chelsea winger played a superb one-two with Grace Geyoro before supplying the finish to put her side 1-0 up after 76 minutes.

Clara Mateo added a second with four minutes remaining to put France eight points clear at the top of Group A2 after scoring maximum points from four matches played so far.

Johanna Rytting Kaneryd and Nathalie Bjorn played 90 minutes for Sweden as they drew 1-1 with Wales at the Gamla Ullevi stadium.

Former Blues captain Magda Eriksson gave the home side the lead after 60 minutes, only for Hannah Cain to net the equaliser for Wales eight minutes later. Despite the draw, Sweden still sit at the top of Group A4, having taken eight points from their opening four matches in the competition.

Sjoeke Nusken came on in the 55th minute for Germany as her side once again ran up a big score over Erin Cuthbert’s Scotland.

A hat-trick from Selina Cerci, a brace scored by Giovanna Hoffmann, and a sublime finish added by Laura Freigang was answered by a solitary goal from Caroline Weir, which made for a 6-1 win by full-time.

Cuthbert played all 90 minutes in the Scotland midfield, receiving a yellow card in the process.
