Cole Palmer started England's final Euro 2024 warm-up fixture this evening while Mykhailo Mudryk and Armando Broja were also in action for their countries ahead of the tournament in Germany.
Palmer scored on his full debut for the Three Lions against Bosnia and Herzegovina on Monday and was rewarded with a place in the starting XI once again as England faced Iceland at Wembley.
Yet the contest didn't go to plan for Gareth Southgate's side, which fell behind in the 12th minute when Jon Dagur Thorsteinsson’s low shot beat goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.
Palmer fashioned England's best opportunity of the first half – a lovely cross that Harry Kane volleyed wide – and the Chelsea forward had a couple of sights of goal in the second period before being replaced in the 77th minute by Eberechi Eze.
England, for who Conor Gallagher was an unused substitute, were unable to find a leveller despite the changes and will head to the European Championships off the back of a disappointing defeat.
Elsewhere, Mudryk played the final 20 minutes for Ukraine against Poland. The winger entered the game with his country trailing 3-1 and was unable to lead a late fightback.
It was a better night for Armando Broja and Albania, as they defeated Azerbaijan 3-1. The Chelsea Academy graduate played the first half of the contest before being replaced.
Meanwhile, in World Cup qualifying action, Nicolas Jackson started for Senegal against DR Congo. The 22-year-old played all but the final moments of the 1-1 draw, which has left Senegal third in Group B after five matches.
