Nicolas Jackson explained the method behind the move that gave us the lead against Crystal Palace on Sunday.
The striker netted his second goal in as many league games midway through the opening 45 minutes. It was a fluent Chelsea transition from our own half deep into enemy territory, and ended with Cole Palmer cleverly squaring the ball for Jackson to convert from close range.
‘It was fantastic counter-attack,’ said the Senegalese.
‘We train on this every time at the training ground, so we know exactly what we need to do on the pitch as well.'
Jackson added of his injury-time one-on-one that Dean Henderson expertly saved: ‘It was a great chance to win the game.
‘It was the last minute, I was a little bit tired, but I made the run and hopefully next time I will score one like this.’
Chelsea were the dominant force for the majority of this London derby at Stamford Bridge. Henderson was at his best on several occasions to restrict us to just Jackson’s goal, and the striker expressed his frustration at not being more clinical in front of goal.
‘We’re a little bit disappointed to drop points because we should have won the game. We had many chances, and they were defending so low. We’re not happy with the point but it’s better than losing.
‘We just have to fight for the next one, forget the past and try to concentrate on the next games we have.’
