Defender Jess Carter has signed a contract extension with Chelsea Women to keep her at the club until the summer of 2025.

Following Carter’s incredible summer playing her part in the victorious Lionesses squad and bringing home the Women’s European Championship trophy, the no.7 has put pen to paper to commit to Chelsea for three more years.

Recognised as a versatile player, the 24-year-old has excelled more recently at centre-half having played an impressive 36 games last season. The defender is now approaching 100 appearances for the club.

Previously awarded the PFA’s Women’s Young Player of the Year, Carter has picked up a remarkable haul of silverware to date. She has secured the FA Women’s Community Shield, both the Continental League Cup and the FA Women’s Cup twice, and been a three-time Champion of England.

As well as winning the Euros this summer, Carter has achieved 12 international caps to date since making her senior debut against Kazakhstan in 2017. Carter was also part of the England squad that won the inaugural Arnold Clark Cup earlier this year.

Upon signing her extension, Carter commented: ‘I’m very excited and proud to extend my contract at Chelsea for three more years.

‘I'm looking forward to continuing my development with the team, helping them to become even more successful.’

General manager Paul Green added: ‘We are really delighted for Jess to sign a new contract with the club. She had an outstanding 2021/22 season for both club and country and we want to reward her for those achievements.

‘We’re really happy with the way she’s been developing over the last couple of seasons and look forward to seeing that continue in the upcoming years.’
