Chelsea FC Women’s Jessie Fleming says the Blues aim to stay top of the league after beating Leicester City 9-0 at the King Power Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The emphatic win saw Emma Hayes’ side leapfrog Arsenal in the table to go top for the first time this season. With five league games remaining, Fleming assessed the title race so far.

Speaking after the game, our No.17 said: ‘It feels great, we always want to be on top of the league. It’s taken us a bit longer this season than we would have liked and we’ve been chasing Arsenal all season so we’re just excited to be there and stay there.’

On the performance against the Foxes, Fleming added: ‘It was a great team performance, it’s so good to see so many different names on the scoresheet and we were just enjoying ourselves out there.

‘It was just one of those days where things go your way, we were just getting the bounces and we were on top of it right from the start.’

Fleming scored our ninth and final goal of the afternoon after a fine team move. Commenting on that, the Canada international said: ‘There was good build-up play through Lauren [James] and Drew [Spence], I just tried to get the finish off quickly. I was happy to score!’

The Blues are now unbeaten in eight league games and have won our last four WSL games back-to-back.

Hayes’ side have one more test before the international break, when we welcome Kelly Chambers’ Reading to Kingsmeadow on Sunday.

Fleming discussed the importance of finishing on a high before we enter the international break, as the Blues aim to take our fine form into the final stretch of the season.

‘It’s super important to finish this block of games on a high and I think the team is in a good place so we’re excited to go out and play again against Reading.’

Our game against the Royals kicks off at 6.45pm on Sunday and will be broadcast live on Sky Sports.
