After netting two fine goals in our big FA Cup win over Morecambe, Joao Felix expressed satisfaction at playing his part in the victory and underlined the team’s collective will to advance to the fourth round.

The Blues ensured League Two Morecambe never had any hope of causing a major Cup shock, although it wasn’t until the second half that the floodgates opened following some determined resistance from the Shrimps.

Joao Felix recognised the significance of patience in overcoming stubborn opposition who were determined to thrive on the big stage.

‘The plan was to take the game seriously because people can think it’s easy to play those games, but sometimes it’s not,’ said the attacker.

‘We went to the pitch with the idea to win and to score as many as we can. It was difficult to score the first to be honest, but after that it was easier and we did a great match. Congratulations to all because we did great work.’

Joao Felix had already gone close on several occasions when he added his name to the scoresheet in the 75th minute to make it 4-0 with an instinctive effort from 20 yards.

An even better strike followed barely 120 seconds later. Receiving a pass on the apex of the 18-yard box, he whipped a shot across the keeper and into the top right-hand corner.

The Portuguese has had to work hard for minutes in the Premier League this season, but when handed an opportunity to play in cup competitions, he has often stood out.

‘I try to enjoy every time I’m on the pitch, whether it’s one minute, five minutes, or 90 minutes,’ said Joao Felix.

‘I played 90 minutes and I’m happy with that. I tried to do my best and help the team. The only way to do it is to keep working, and when they need me, I will be there to help the team.’
