Johanna Rytting Kaneryd was pleased to be on the scoresheet to help the Blues beat Brighton & Hove Albion 4-2 in what proved to be a hard-fought Women's Super League win.
Our penultimate league fixture before the winter break saw Sonia Bompastor's side beat Brighton in a close encounter at Kingsmeadow that keeps us five points clear at the top of the table.
The Blues have now won each of our nine WSL fixtures thus far, and our winning streak stands at 13 games across all competitions ahead of Wednesday night's UEFA Champions League group-stage meeting with FC Twente at Stamford Bridge.
But, to extend our winning run was not easy, says Rytting Kaneryd. The 27-year-old was delighted to help the Blues claim another three points in the WSL as she described a challenging route to do so.
'It felt difficult,' Rytting Kaneryd said. 'We had times where we played good and did a lot of good stuff and then there were times where we maybe looked stressed and were not controlling the game like we wanted to.
'It's still a great result even if we didn't play at our best level. It's a strength for us that we can win games in these tough conditions, but we want to be a team that controls the game and plays good football. When we did do that, you can see the level we want to achieve. A win is a win and we take that every day.
'Now, it's all about recovery and being prepared for Wednesday's game. We've got an intense couple of weeks left and we want to go into the winter break with nice feelings that we can build on.'
The Swedish winger netted our third against the Seagulls, a goal that increased her tally to four for the season in the WSL. It means in only nine games she has matched her return from last season when she featured on 19 occasions in the league.
Her goal on Sunday was one of the more simpler finishes we have seen from Rytting Kaneryd. She bundled the ball home on the rebound in the 51st minute after Lucy Bronze saw her initial strike saved by the Brighton goalkeeper.
'I told Lucy thank you for that!' Rytting Kaneryd added. 'I had a few chances and should have scored before in this game, especially in the first half. I had a really good opportunity, so I'm just happy that I did manage to get a goal in the end.'
The win against Brighton meant the Blues signed off from Kingsmeadow for 2024 in the best possible way with a win and three points, and Rytting Kaneryd was delighted we could thank the fans for their incredible support.
'It's super important to win our last game at home before the break,' she added. 'It's always nice to be playing at Kingsmeadow in front of our amazing fans. We're buzzing about that.'
