Johanna Rytting Kaneryd’s impressive form for the Blues has been rewarded with the winger being shortlisted for both the Women’s Super League Player of the Month and Goal of the Month awards for October.
The 27-year-old, who was also nominated for both prizes for September, has been a standout performer for Chelsea this season, having netted three goals and registered two assists in only four games this season.
Her first goal in last weekend’s 5-2 victory against Tottenham Hotspur at Kingsmeadow has been nominated for this month's award.
Using her instep to connect with Millie Bright’s cross, the Swedish winger guided her strike back across the face of goal and into the far corner. One of the best she has ever scored, Rytting Kaneryd believes!
In October, she featured for 89 minutes in our 2-1 win over Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium and put in an inspired display in that stunning win over Tottenham where she scored twice and also contributed with an assist.
Rytting Kaneryd’s displays have helped the Blues record a flawless start to the WSL in terms of results, with four wins from a possible four. We currently sit second in the table, one point behind Manchester City who have played a game more.
For the Player of the Month award, Johanna has been nominated alongside Celine Bizet (Manchester United), Annabel Blanchard (Crystal Palace), Lauren Hemp (Manchester City), Sophie Howard (Leicester City), and Nikita Paris (Brighton & Hove Albion).
Meanwhile, for the Goal of the Month award, the Blues winger is up against Cornelia Kapocs (Liverpool), Marie Hobinger (Liverpool), Annabel Blanchard (Crystal Palace), Caitlin Foord (Arsenal), Elisabeth Terland (Manchester United), Khadija Shaw (Manchester City), Lauren Hemp (Manchester City), and Yuka Momiki (Leicester City).
Voting is now open and will close at 12pm on Monday 28 October. You can vote for Johanna for Player of the Month here and for Goal of the Month here!
Well done, Jojo!
