The matchday programme for our game against Gent features exclusive interviews with goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen and legendary former Blues forward Eidur Gudjohnsen.
Jorgensen has been between the sticks for our midweek cup excursions since making the move from Villarreal in the summer, and he talks the programme team through his upbringing in the game, which included an interesting year in Spain alongside a player he has been reunited with at Chelsea.
‘Nicolas Jackson is my good friend and it was similar to me, playing one year in Villarreal and then moving to Chelsea,’ he said.
‘He came there when I moved up to the Under-19s – and he is a very funny guy, very loud, with a strong character. He didn't know any Spanish when he came, so I was the one that had to help him there. We had a good relationship at Villarreal.
‘We all knew the big, big potential he had, and when he gained some confidence and got to play a bit more, he showed everyone what he was capable of.
‘Now at Chelsea he's more mature. He's the same guy but he’s maybe got better at all the good qualities he had, and just exploded more. He loves to score goals.’
It’s almost 20 years since Gudjohnsen played for the Blues, but the Gent game could be a proud moment for the two-time Premier League winner as his son, Andri, could appear for the Belgian club.
The programme team’s Paul Mason caught up with the Icelander to look at the Gudjohnsen family’s incredible footballing backstory, which continues to have new chapters added to it with the current generation.
There’s a look back at our first matches in the Fairs Cup and Cup Winners’ Cup as part of a regular new feature in our Conference League programmes, plus the latest from head coach Enzo Maresca, captain Reece James and columns from the Women’s and Academy set-ups.
