Summer signing Filip Jorgensen was delighted to make a winning start to his Chelsea career on his competitive debut and has discussed the competition for places among our goalkeepers at the beginning of the 2024/25 season.

The Danish goalkeeper joined the Blues from Spanish side Villarreal in July and linked-up the squad for pre-season during our tour of the USA.

Jorgensen was then handed his competitive Chelsea debut on Thursday evening, making an impressive start when he helped us to open our European campaign with a 2-0 win over Servette.

His performance in that first leg of our UEFA Conference League play-off at Stamford Bridge was recognised by Blues supporters, when they voted him our Player of the Match.

‘I’m really happy to have made my debut at Stamford Bridge with the team,’ said Jorgensen.

‘I’m very happy with the clean sheet and, of course, for the win. For every game a clean sheet is important as then you have more chance of winning. We are really happy with the clean sheet and the win.

‘It’s a good start to have in the qualifiers so I’m very happy.’

Head coach Enzo Maresca has plenty of options at his disposal during the early stages of his time in the Chelsea dugout, and the goalkeeping position is no exception.

Jorgensen impressed on his debut against Servette, after Robert Sanchez had gotten the nod to mind the Blues’ net in our opening Premier League fixture against Manchester City last week.

Ahead of our first away trip of 2024/25, when we travel to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the league tomorrow, Jorgensen underlined while everyone is obviously pushing for a place in the line-up, for now he is prepared to be patient and just focus on each opportunity as it comes.

‘At the end of the day, when I will play I will give my best and be my best. Hopefully one day I’ll be able to play every game, but Robert is here and he is doing a great job.

‘I want to play and so does he, and so we are both here fighting for a place in the starting XI,’ concluded the 22-year-old keeper.
