Filip Jorgensen has been a mainstay between the posts in our UEFA Conference League campaign and ahead of our semi-final tie with Djurgarden, the goalkeeper has discussed our impressive defensive record in the competition.

Jorgensen has played the full 90 minutes in 11 of our 12 games so far in Europe this term, missing only the away win in Copenhagen. He has registered five clean sheets, one of which he secured with a string of superb saves away to Heidenheim. That showing was arguably his best in a Chelsea shirt yet.

Understandably, the 23-year-old is also quick to credit the outfielders for our defensive solidity so far this term.

‘We train hard and we study our opponents before the matches and do our best to counter their strengths and what they are good at,’ Jorgensen explains.

‘We have played well. We try our best and I think we have done well.’

Jorgensen was born in Lomma, on Sweden’s south-west coast. It is not far from Malmo, but a healthy six-and-a-half hour drive from the capital Stockholm, where we will meet Djurgarden in the first leg of our Conference League semi-final tie.

‘I don’t follow the Swedish league that much,’ Jorgensen admits, ‘but of course, I have heard of Djurgarden. It is a big club in Sweden with a lot of supporters and a great stadium.’

It is in the 3Arena that our next European challenge awaits. Djurgarden stand between us and a place in the Conference League final, and Jorgensen acknowledged Blues fans have us down as favourites to win the competition.

‘I think they do, and probably a lot of people around the world think this too,’ he noted.

‘They expect us to win as we should. Of course football is unpredictable, but we will do our best to win it.’

And if we do, Jorgensen will have more than earned his winners’ medal.
