While Chelsea fans will be hoping for a first glimpse of recent addition Kalidou Koulibaly in action this evening, one Blue is already well aware of the qualities the Senegalese international possesses.
Jorginho was a team-mate of Koulibaly’s for four years at Napoli and the Italy international has revealed that he has been encouraging the defender to join him at Chelsea, ever since it was first speculated that we could make a move for him.
The Italian is well are of what Kalidou can bring to the Blues, labelling the defender as a ‘perfect’ addition, and hopes he can showcase his attributes in tonight’s final fixture of our tour of USA, as we face Arsenal in Orlando – a game you can watch live and for free on The 5th Stand app and the Chelsea website.
‘I was talking to Kalidou a lot. I was saying “come on, let’s play together again. I miss playing with you and it’s been a long time!” I was telling him this a lot,’ revealed the midfielder.
‘For me, the club – along with the staff and the coach - have made the best possible choice in bringing Kalidou to the club.
‘I just really hope, and I’m pretty sure of this, he will be a big help to our team. He is a fantastic player and a perfect replacement [for Antonio Rudiger].
‘Even before he signed, we would speak a lot and since he’s been with us I’ve been explaining to him how things work, what we do here and helping him settle into the group.
‘He’s a really special player and I know he will be great for us because he not only is he a really good player, he is a top guy off the pitch too.’
Meanwhile Jorginho has also reflected on our time in the States, with the midfielder excited to face Arsenal at the Camping World Stadium in Orlando before heading back to the UK.
The Italian international has thanked the fans for their support during our time across the pond and he hopes repay their faith with a strong showing tonight.
‘It’s been great to play in America and it’s been beautiful to play in front of so many people in the fantastic stadiums,’ said Jorgi.
‘What we want to give to the supporters is a good game to watch. It’s good for us to get minutes, hopefully we play a nice game and of course we want to win against Arsenal!’
