Kepa Arrizabalaga is among the goalkeepers nominated for January’s Premier League Save of the Month award.
The Spaniard receives his nomination for his important stop to deny Crystal Palace’s Cheick Doucoure late on in our match at Stamford Bridge on 15 January. The game ended in a 1-0 home win for Chelsea, thanks to Kai Havertz’s second-half goal, but the victory also owed much to Kepa’s crucial intervention as we held on to our narrow lead during the closing stages.
When a Palace cross was headed clear out of the box by Thiago Silva it looked like the danger may have passed, but Doucoure met the dropping ball to fire a vicious volley towards the top corner of the Shed End net. Thankfully for the Blues, Doucoure met Kepa in fine form, as our goalkeeper flew across his line and reached out a strong right hand to palm the powerful shot over the crossbar at full stretch.
