Sam Kerr has been recognised in the fourth class of winners of the Women’s International Champions Cup Best XI.

Comprised of athletes, executives, journalists and activists who are doing the most to advance the women’s game, the Women’s International Champions Cup Best XI was devised by an advisory board that selected Kerr as one of three players to become honourees for the 2023 edition.

Blues manager Emma Hayes was named in the WICC Best XI in 2021 and Kerr has earned similar recognition in this year's class.

The 30-year-old finished third in the running for the 2023 BBC Women’s Footballer of the Year award and was the runner-up in the final standings for the Women’s Ballon d’Or.

It was another remarkable season for Kerr who netted 29 goals in 38 appearances for the Blues on our way to the Double in 2022/23. She reached a personal milestone with her 100th appearance for the club during our FA Cup fifth round victory over Arsenal at Kingsmeadow in February.

Individual plaudits saw Kerr scoop the club’s Player and Players’ Player of the Season awards, the FA WSL Player of the Year at the London Football Awards for the second time and she became the first player to win the Football Writers’ Association Women’s Footballer of the Year prize twice in a row.

She has scored seven goals in eight appearances this season, including a hat-trick against Paris FC in the UEFA Women’s Champions League, where she holds the record for the most goals scored in the group stage of the competition.

It was an eventful summer for Kerr and Australia at the Women’s World Cup on home soil. An injury in the build-up saw the Matildas skipper miss the entirety of the group phase, but she returned at the round of 16 to help her country to the semi-finals for the very first time.

Kerr’s strike for the hosts in their semi-final defeat to England, an unstoppable long-range effort after a driving run at the Lionesses defence, was also nominated for the 2023 FIFA Puskas Award with the winner of this award to be confirmed.

Congratulations on your WICC Best XI honour, Sam!
