Chelsea striker Sam Kerr is among the three nominees for the 2022/23 UEFA Women’s Player of the Year award after a stellar season on the domestic, European and international stages.
The 29-year-old will go up against Spain’s Aitana Bonmati and Olga Carmona for this prestigious award, with the nominees selected by coaches and journalists based on performances during 2022/23 for club and country.
Sam Kerr enjoyed a wonderful season for the Blues, scoring 29 goals in 38 appearances as we secured a fourth-consecutive Women’s Super League title, which was preceded by a third-straight FA Cup triumph at Wembley Stadium.
We reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Women’s Champions League and, along the way, the Australian became the first player to score four goals in a group game during our 8-0 victory over Vllaznia at Kingsmeadow last November.
At the end of the 2022/23 campaign, Kerr was named the Chelsea Women’s Player and Players’ Player of the Season. She won the FA Women’s Super League Player of the Year at the London Football Awards and became the first player to win the Football Writers’ Association Women’s Footballer of the Year twice in a row.
There was no let up for Kerr, who jetted off to represent Australia at a home World Cup this summer. She was ruled out of the group stages through injury, but returned to the fold in the last 16, helping the Matildas to the semi-finals, where she scored a stunning strike in their defeat to England.
The UEFA Women's Player of the Year winner will be announced on Thursday 31 August.
