A disappointed Sam Kerr was unable to inspire her side against Arsenal, as Chelsea fell to a 4-1 defeat at the Emirates, bringing an end to our unbeaten run in the Women’s Super League.

The striker, who wore the captain’s armband in the absence of Millie Bright, was frustrated with the Blues’ performance away from home but remained pragmatic when focusing on the long campaign.

Speaking after the match, a level-headed Kerr gave her reaction to the loss which brings the Gunners level on points with Chelsea in the WSL table.

‘I don’t really want to speak while there’s all this emotion, that’s for us to go back and learn from,’ said Kerr.

‘We have to give it to Arsenal, we didn’t play our best today and they played well. The better team won today. I don’t want to comment on what I think went wrong because it’s emotional and it’s not my job.

‘It’s important to look at the big picture. Of course, this will hurt and we’re disappointed for ourselves and our supporters, but the bigger picture is the end of the season. It is only one game.

‘We don’t like to get too far ahead of ourselves or get too down on ourselves, but this one obviously hurts.'

The Australian acknowledged the 'busy schedule' which continues with Hacken on Thursday night in our UEFA Women’s Champions League tie, and Kerr believes that it will give the squad the chance to make amends immediately.

‘We are used to a busy schedule, it’s our job – this is Chelsea,’ Kerr continued.

‘We are used to having a game every three days and now we have the Champions League to focus on. Games come fast and we have to learn quickly.

‘I’m sure we’ll learn from this and bounce back. It’s only one game in a season. We had a loss the year before here at the Emirates and we bounced back so I’m sure we’ll do the same.

‘At the moment, the team is disappointed, mostly because of the performance we put in, but we will bounce back. We are all professional, we have done this before and we’re a tight group.

‘Although it is disappointing, this happens and we have to bounce back. We have the Champions League on Thursday and then another big match on the weekend, so we have to bounce back.’
