Chelsea Women’s Lauren James has won the Barclays FA Women’s Super League Goal of the Month award for February for her wonderful solo strike during our 3-2 victory over Tottenham Hotspur.
We earned a hard-fought three points against Spurs in east London at the start of the month thanks to goals from Jess Carter, Guro Reiten and Lauren James, the latter earning recognition for her sensational run and finish, which has been voted the WSL Goal of the Month for February.
After picking the ball up on the right-hand side, James drifted infield and continued her run into the penalty area, skipping past three attempted challenges before nestling the ball perfectly into the far corner to restore our lead.
James is quickly becoming one of the brightest young talents in the game, possessing an abundance of quality and creativity. The forward has added consistency to her game as the season has progressed and she will be integral to the Blues' hopes of silverware across four competitions this season.
The 21-year-old enjoyed a strong international break with England, where she scored her first senior goal for the reigning European champions during a 4-0 victory over South Korea, earning three points which helped the Lionesses defend their Arnold Clark Cup crown.
Chelsea Women return to action against Arsenal in the Vitality Women’s FA Cup fifth round at Kingsmeadow this Sunday 26 February, with kick-off at 2pm (UK time).
There is also Women's Champions League action to come after James and the Blues booked our place in the knockout stages, as we take on Lyon in the quarter-finals, with the second leg to be played at Stamford Bridge on Thursday 30 March.
