Ahead of the next instalment of a fixture that dates back to near the very start, we pick a few notable past encounters…

Leicester were among the first host clubs to play newly formed Chelsea, way back in September 1905 at Filbert Street, and the fourth-ever team to be beaten by the Pensioners. Inside-forward James Robertson, making his second Division Two appearance for the Londoners, headed in a 10th-minute goal, and that proved to be the winner.

Not all the memories are happy ones. In December 2015 the Foxes’ new stadium hosted the final match of Jose Mourinho’s second spell with the Blues, a 2-1 defeat, and a 2-0 loss in January 2021 was the final league fixture of Frank Lampard’s Chelsea tenure.

Last season a stunning top-bins finish from former Fox N’Golo Kante helped seal a 3-0 victory at the King Power Stadium. In among Toni Rudiger’s opener from the barracked Ben Chilwell’s corner and Christian Pulisic’s late slot for the third, the Blues had three further goals scrubbed off. The win raised Thomas Tuchel’s men six points clear at the top of the Premier League.

The Blues’ biggest win in this corner of the East Midlands was 4-0, recorded in January 2004. Two goals from Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, restored to the line-up, and own goal from Nikos Dabizas and a rare strike from Celestine Babayaro made it a stress-free afternoon for Claudio Ranieri’s team on Chelsea’s first visit to Leicester’s new stadium.
