Chelsea started our summer tour of the USA with a draw and a defeat but Colwill is confident we are moving in the right direction despite our 4-1 loss to Celtic in Notre Dame.

‘The gaffer has a strict strategy but all players understand what he wants to get. Each day we are learning more and more and taking it on,’ he said at our pre-match press conference ahead of Club America on Wednesday.

‘From game one onto game two, you could see the improvements even if the scoreline did not reflect that, but that is what pre-season is for. We are going to keep building in the right way.

‘There have been mistakes but that’s what pre-season is for. We are learning from those mistakes,’ the Cobham graduate said.

‘There is a whole different approach which we need to learn but it is exciting and we are getting there. Sooner or later we will get there and that is going to be before the season starts.’

The Blues face Mexican side Club America in the Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Wednesday night. They have already begun their Liga MX campaign, winning two and losing two of their opening four games.

Levi revealed the squad have kept a close eye on their current form.

He said: ‘From what we have seen already they are really good team and it’s going to be a good game. We’re playing against a different team with a different strategy, so we are going to take in as much as we can from the game which will then help us prepare us for the season.

‘Tomorrow you will see that we have learnt from our mistakes against Celtic, and how much we are improving and going over the game.

'Club America have a great force going forward but we have great defensive players.

‘Hopefully it will be a great game!’
