Weeks do not come much bigger than signing your first professional contract and making your Chelsea debut. Lola Brown knows that better than anyone. She’s just lived it.

On Monday 18 November, the 17-year-old midfielder penned a three-year deal with the Blues and just two days later she was stepping onto the Stamford Bridge turf for the first time for her senior debut as a late substitute in our UEFA Champions League win against Celtic.

To be involved in the match-day squad was already the stuff of dreams for the Academy graduate who has been with the club almost half her life. But to play? Words are barely enough to describe how it felt.

‘It was just amazing,’ Brown says with as big a smile we may ever see across her face. ‘I could hear the fans when I came on. It was just a great feeling.

‘This is what I’ve always dreamed about, especially coming through the Academy since I was like nine or 10 years old. To make my debut at Stamford Bridge, it was just a dream come true.

‘I was so excited to play on that pitch. Even to just to be a part of the warm-up, but then when Sonia told me I was going to get minutes, I was overjoyed. I just couldn’t wait.’

After coming on for the final five minutes, the youngster offered the Chelsea faithful a glimpse of her talent. A run down the left flank was met by some of the loudest cheers of the night.

‘It was amazing to know the fans support me,’ Brown adds. ‘It was a great feeling for me and very special. I won’t ever forget it.’

There is definitely a wise head on young shoulders when it comes to Brown. Even after the week she has had, the young midfielder knows not to get ahead of herself.

‘It has to have been the best week of my life,’ she says. ‘It’s a big milestone and something you always look to do when you’re young.

‘It felt amazing to sign my contract, but, obviously, I know this is just the beginning. I’ve got to work hard to maintain the contract and to get another. It’s an amazing feeling and I am just so proud to be a Chelsea player.’

Brown becomes the latest Academy player to commit her future to the club. To have the Blues invest in her at such a young age, she says, only encourages her even more.

‘You have seen how they’ve done that with a few young players,’ Brown adds. ‘It’s great when you’ve got those people, like Aggie and Lexi Potter, who have signed and you can see there is a pathway.

‘I’ve just got to keep working hard and see what comes my way. I’m a big believer in everything happens for a reason, so if I work hard then we will see what happens.’

At Stamford Bridge, Brown shared the pitch with her idols. The likes of Lucy Bronze, Millie Bright and Erin Cuthbert are no longer only role models, they are team-mates.

‘I’ve always looked up to them,’ she says. ‘They have all been amazing and so supportive.

‘I actually remember my first-ever game was watching Lucy Bronze and now I’m playing on the same team as her. It’s just an amazing feeling. It’s quite surreal.’

Lola Brown. She’s one of her own.
