Catarina Macario was pleased with a good team performance to book our place in the semi-finals of the Women’s FA Cup, but knows there is more to come from her and the Blues as we enter a difficult run of fixtures.

The American led the Chelsea attack when we hosted Crystal Palace at Kingsmeadow in Sunday’s quarter-final tie, with a solitary second-half goal by Lauren James ultimately proving the difference and securing our progress to the last four.

The striker was satisfied with navigating a potentially tricky cup tie with minimal fuss thanks to a dominant performance against Palace, but echoed the words of head coach Sonia Bompastor in calling on the Blues to be more clinical in front of goal.

‘It was a good performance, but I think there is definitely room for improvement in terms of our play in the final third and our finishing,’ said Macario.

‘We definitely should have scored more goals. We have to work on that to be more ruthless in front of goal, but the most important thing is to win and get through to the next round.’

Macario also sees more potential to step up her own performance, having returned this season from a lengthy spell sidelined by injury, but admits our busy fixture schedule, as we compete across four competitions, makes it difficult to find time for individual training work between matches.

She said: ‘There’s definitely room for improvement. I always tell the staff that I still feel like I’m in a kind of recovery mode to be honest, just because I haven’t really been able to do as much as I’ve wanted to do.

‘Especially with the amount of games that we have, because we’re always recovering or doing matchday minus one, it’s hard to make those gains.

‘At the end of the day I’m just happy to be available and to be able to contribute to the team in any way that I can, but it’s definitely something that I want to be working on to be able to do better for Chelsea.’

Following Sunday’s victory, we will now face Liverpool in the FA Cup semi-finals next month. However, before then comes four consecutive matches against Manchester City, who we meet in the Women’s Super League, UEFA Champions League quarter-finals and Saturday's League Cup final.

Macario believes our FA Cup victory will help build confidence as we attempt to claim the season’s first piece of silverware at Pride Park.

‘It always gives us confidence every time that we win,' added Catarina. 'I do think that we have some more to improve, especially in the final third, but I think we are in a good place.

‘It gives us a big boost of confidence. At the end of the day we’re expected to be in the semi-finals of every competition and just win everything to be honest. So it’s something we just have to think of as another day, another game, and hopefully another win.

‘We have one week until we play Man City, so we’re definitely going to try to build and learn from what we can improve here and just try to be positive ahead of the game.’
