Chelsea duo Levi Colwill and Noni Madueke have added their names to the long list of people praising Cole Palmer after he was named the England Men’s Player of the Year.

That honour comes at the end of a remarkable rise for Palmer, who only made his senior international debut last November.

The 22-year-old did not start a game at the European Championships this summer but still had a huge impact, notably setting up Ollie Watkins’ semi-final winner against the Netherlands and scoring brilliantly against Spain in the final.

Two players who know Palmer as well as anyone are Madueke and Colwill. As Chelsea and long-time England team-mates of his, the pair have the pleasure of playing alongside him in training every day and then watching him do his thing at the weekend.

Although, as a defender, Colwill has been on the receiving end of his magic, too!

'You give him half a yard and it’s a goal,’ said Colwill. ‘He’s so laid-back about it and it’s so frustrating at times because he’ll put it through your legs and score, then walk off like nothing has happened. You can’t get him back, that is the worst thing about it.

‘Give him any chance outside the box or inside, it’s a 95 per cent chance it will be a goal. You see that in most games.'

Madueke has been the beneficiary of Palmer’s ingenuity on several occasions this season. All four of his league goals have been set up by Palmer passes, and their link-up has been a highlight of our recent play.

‘The sky’s the limit for him,’ said Madueke. ‘I don’t know if he has a ceiling. I feel like the form that he’s showing now is incredible and I just hope he can continue that.

'He's the type of player that doesn’t feel pressure in the most pressurised situations. I admire that about him. He’s a great footballer and I’m sure he’s going to produce for England just as he does for Chelsea.'
