Noni Madueke is ‘honoured’ to be back in the England squad ahead of the upcoming games against Greece and Finland, as the winger targets more success.

It’s been a bright start to the season for the 22-year-old, featuring eight times for Enzo Maresca's Blues and finding the back of the net five times – including a memorable hat-trick and Player of the Match display against Wolves.

Following that success, Noni received his first call-up to the England senior squad, making his debut against Finland at Wembley and marking it with an assist for Harry Kane’s second of the night during his 100th cap for the Three Lions.

Pleased to be back at St. George's Park, Chelsea’s No.11 is excited about potentially adding to his debut cap during tonight's match against Greece in the Nations League.

‘I’m honoured to be back in the squad,’ Madueke opened.

‘It’s always an honour to play for your country and it’s one of the best squads in the world, so it’s always an honour to be a part of it. You have to keep doing as well for your club in order for you to get called up to your country, so I’m really pleased.

‘My England debut was great. First and foremost, we won the game, but assisting the second goal was special, especially assisting Harry [Kane] on that historical night for him. I was very pleased and hopefully there are more great memories in an England shirt to come.’

Focusing on his road to England, Madueke acknowledges that his journey has been unique with the winger having featured in the Netherlands for PSV as a youngster before joining the Blues.

Noni credits current England interim manager Lee Carsley for his guidance, the duo having worked together at youth level when Carsley took England to glory in the 2023 Under-21 European Championships – a side that included Chelsea trio Madueke, Cole Palmer and Levi Colwill.

‘I probably haven’t had the standard journey,’ he continued.

‘I played academy football in England and then went to play abroad for the first part of my professional career, which was a good experience. I learned a lot, but now I’m back in England which I’m happy about.

‘Lee is a great person and a great coach. He’s very good at communicating his ideas and he has a strong belief about how he wants to play which I admire about him. He’s also good at describing those ideas to the team. I think he’s a great coach and a great guy.’

The winger was also pleased to hear that Palmer had been named England Men’s Player of the Year and with the pair having risen through the ranks at England together, Noni feels that they enjoy a close bond.

‘Cole and I have a great relationship on and off the pitch,’ Madueke added.

‘We have been playing with each other for a very long time now – since Under-15s at England. I feel like that helps. We’re very good friends off the pitch and he looks for me a lot just like I look for him. We bounce off each other and we have a similar outlook on things.

‘Cole is a very unique player. He’s just relaxed. I feel like he’s just as relaxed on the pitch as he is off the pitch. That’s just him and some people are just like that – that’s his character. It works for him. He plays the game to enjoy it and he produces.

‘He’s got a killer pass and I’m very dynamic. I think it just works and we’re just good friends too.

'When he helps me do well and I help him, that relationship grows. It’s always fun playing with him and I get to play with him every week, so it will be fun if we get that opportunity with England.’
