Noni Madueke was pleased to add another goal to his collection but was left frustrated that the Blues were held to a home draw by Nottingham Forest.
In a game that had plenty of chances and talking points, the visitors took the lead through Chris Wood before Madueke levelled the scoring. Forest were then reduced to 10 men when James Ward-Prowse was shown a second yellow card for handball.
With 13 minutes of stoppage time added on amid a flurry of yellow cards for both sides, ultimately a winner didn’t arrive with both Robert Sanchez and Matz Sels in each goal making big saves to ensure the points were shared.
Madueke, scoring his first goal at Stamford Bridge this season, reflected on the game and ultimately felt the Blues did enough to take all three points so was frustrated when speaking after the final whistle.
‘Listen, Forest are a stubborn side and they defended very well,’ Madueke explained when analysing the 90 minutes.
‘Of course, we came into the game with the intention of taking all three points but we just couldn’t quite get it over the line and that’s frustrating.
‘Forest were defending for most of the game and they were hard to break down. It’s annoying we couldn’t get another goal but that’s football and we just need to regroup after the international break now.
‘Credit to Forest, they were resilient and they got bodies behind the ball. They plugged the gaps and made it difficult for us, so credit to them.
‘We still had chances to score another goal though and in the end it’s one of those games that just leaves you frustrated.’
Madueke, again included in the latest England squad, was delighted to get on the scoresheet with a neat finish into the far bottom corner.
While pleased to score – and hopeful of adding more to his tally before the season is out – the winger was ultimately left frustrated his goal couldn’t contribute to all three points as we head into the international break.
‘I’m pleased to score and it’s always nice to get a goal,’ added our No.11. ‘I’ve missed a few chances in recent games so it was good to get back on the scoresheet.
‘We didn’t win the game though, which is the main thing, so I’m left a little disappointed overall. But of course, it’s nice to score and hopefully I can keep adding to my tally this season.
‘We’ve made a good start to the season but we are still conceding a few goals, which we know we need to tighten up on as a team.
‘It’s only a couple of months under the new manager and things are going well, we’ve put in some really good performances and we need to build on them going forward.’
