Enzo Maresca has confirmed that Malo Gusto is back fit and available to face Barrow in the Carabao Cup.
The Blues welcome the League Two leaders to Stamford Bridge on Tuesday evening for a third round League Cup fixture, with the head coach issuing some team news ahead of the game when speaking to the media at Cobham.
Gusto has missed our last two matches after suffering an injury against Crystal Palace prior to the international break.
The defender took part in modified training alongside Romeo Lavia last week and Maresca was asked about the pair during his pre-match press conference on Monday afternoon.
‘Malo is available for tomorrow. Romeo is not available for tomorrow. Hopefully he can be available for the Brighton game.'
Maresca also suggested Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is likely to start against Barrow after being specifically asked about the summer signing from Leicester City, where the pair worked so impressively together.
‘Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, yes, probably [he will start tomorrow night],’ added Maresca.
‘We have a session this afternoon and I also like to tell the players before anyone else [like the media].’
Dewsbury-Hall scored 12 goals and had 14 assists as Leicester City won the Championship title during Maresca's first year in charge.
The midfielder's outstanding displays saw him join the Blues this summer and after missing the first few weeks of pre-season through injury, he quickly made his mark during our trip to America.
With world-class talent among the Chelsea ranks in the likes of Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez and Cole Palmer, to name a few, Dewsbury-Hall has had to settle for a place on the bench during our Premier League matches so far this season, although he has started our two Conference League fixtures against Servette.
Maresca said: 'I’m very happy with Kiernan. If we simply judge a team or a player based on how they play or if we win, we also need to understand Kiernan was the main player at Leicester and he is not now and is not the main player, he is one of the players.
'For him and for any player in the world, you need to adapt because you go from being the main player to becoming one of the players. That period requires time to understand that and you adapt, but I am completely happy with Kiernan and what he is doing.
‘When you go inside the pitch for five minutes, ten minutes or 15 minutes, it is never easy. It is not easy for Kiernan and not easy for the rest of the players. So you need to understand that situation because it is different from the previous one when you was the main player. So it is just a matter of adapting a little bit but I don’t have any doubts over Kiernan.’
Maresca was also asked about the potential of Carney Chukwuemeka and Ben Chilwell being in the squad for Barrow, as well as academy graduates Tyrique George and Josh Acheampong.
He replied: ‘The players you mentioned are going to be in the squad tomorrow. Some of them we will see if they will start from the beginning but if not, they will be on the bench and hopefully we can give them some moments.’
