This will be the last of three meetings with Manchester City in the space of six games. Apart from Thursday’s Premier League clash, we met them in the Carabao Cup third round just before the break for the World Cup.
Chelsea and Manchester City face each other in the FA Cup for the seventh occasion. The most recent being the 2020/21 semi-final at Wembley.
Manchester City are looking for a fifth successive victory against the Blues for the first time in their history. Our last win was our Champions League success in May 2021.
City have kept a clean sheet in our last four encounters in all competitions since Kai Havertz scored the winner in Porto.

We last lost a third-round tie in 1998, when Manchester United beat us 5-3 at Stamford Bridge. Our last away defeat at this stage was to Middlesbrough in 1993, when Ian Porterfield was in charge of the Blues.

Manchester City last lost a third-round tie in 2012 when Manchester United won 3-2 at the Etihad. They have lost three other FA Cup matches at this stage since the turn of the century – 2009 v Nottingham Forest (h), 2005 v Oldham (a) and 2003 v Liverpool (h).
City’s home defeat to Brentford in December followed a run of 16 straight victories at the Etihad. Their last 19 home games in all competitions have yielded 86 goals (66-20), an average of four-and-a-half goals per game.

Chelsea have won the FA Cup eight times – in 1970, 1997, 2000, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2012 and 2018. Only Arsenal (14) and Man Utd (12) have won the trophy on more occasions.
Chelsea’s top scorers in the FA Cup (current squad) are Hakim Ziyech with four goals and Mason Mount three.
Of the current players, Cesar Azpilicueta has made the most appearances in the competition for Chelsea – 38. Only eight players have played in more FA Cup games for the club in our history.
This is the fourth consecutive season Chelsea have played the same team in both domestic competitions and 14th time overall. We have yet to lose both in the same campaign during 90 minutes, although we were defeated in penalty shoot-outs by Liverpool in both finals in 2022/23.
