With the attention swiftly switching to Sunday’s game against Wolves, Enzo Maresca has confirmed Joao Felix’s availability for the trip to Molineux and revealed whether Pedro Neto will start against his former club.

Joao Felix’s transfer was completed on Wednesday, too soon for him to make the squad list for our UEFA Conference League fixture the following day.

However, Maresca says the attacker’s second Chelsea debut could be just around the corner as we head to the West Midlands.

‘He is available and for sure he can get chances to play,’ the head coach said.

‘In terms of knowing the way we’re going to play, he is probably not ready yet. In terms of physicality, he is ready because he was already playing games there, so it’s just to understand if he needs more time to understand the way we’re going to play. But, overall, I think he can play.

‘He is a player that is going to help us,’ added Maresca. ‘Potentially he is a top player, no doubt. I know Joao for many years. Working with him day by day, I will know him even better. We are going to try to help him improve and see if he can take one step forward to reach the level of the [very best] players.’

His compatriot Pedro Neto started his first Chelsea game in the 2-0 win over Servette having joined from Wolves this summer. Injuries affected his last couple of seasons at Molineux and that is the reason why Maresca believes it is unlikely he will make the starting XI on Sunday.

‘The last time Pedro played 90 minutes was in February,’ noted the head coach.

‘That is a long time ago. We need with him, and seven or eight more players - Romeo, Axel, Moi, Wes - we need to build a little bit their physical condition.

‘To give Pedro another game on Sunday after playing 60, 65 minutes is probably too early, but we will see.’

Another selection for Maresca to make is in goal. Filip Jorgensen impressed on his Blues debut against Servette after Robert Sanchez began the league season between the posts. Maresca says he will continue to rotate his keepers for now.

‘This is the plan in this moment, but the plan can change. I judge players on their level. If the level continues to be the same, probably Robert will be in goal when we play Premier League, and Filip will be in goal in the Conference League or the cups.

‘But in the end, it’s just about performance.’
