Five goals with no reply against Everton ensured the Blues made it five wins in the Women's Super League this season, as Sonia Bompastor's side claimed a comfortable win in Merseyside.

It took the Blues only 14 minutes to go ahead at Goodison Park, with Aggie Beever-Jones heading home the opener before quickfire goals from Erin Cuthbert and Guro Reiten in the dying stages of a dominant first-half display made it 3-0.

The Blues remained in control throughout and added two more to their tally in the second half, with Wieke Kaptein scoring our fourth with seven minutes left to be played and Ashley Lawrence rounding off proceedings only a minute later.

Team news

Against Everton, head coach Sonia Bompastor made two changes from our last league outing a fortnight ago - a 5-2 win over Tottenham Hotspur - with Lawrence replacing Lucy Bronze in defence, while Beever-Jones led the line, with Mayra Ramirez starting on the bench.

A positive start

The Blues started with intent with Guro Reiten feeding the ball through to Beever-Jones, who spent the season on loan with the Toffees in 2022/23, but the latter's shot from inside the box was well held by the home side's goalkeeper Courtney Brosnan.

There was another opportunity in quick succession for the visiting side. Johanna Rytting Kaneryd met a dangerous-looking cross with her head which dropped just wide of the target.

Everton's first foray forward saw Toni Payne beat Sandy Baltimore down the flank, before she cut inside and unleashed a strike that trailed well wide of the Chelsea goal.

We took the lead when Beever-Jones scored her second goal of the WSL season with a well-taken header. The 21-year-old rose above her marker in the box to meet a phenomenal cross whipped in by Kadeisha Buchanan and guided the ball into the back of the net.

Soon after setting up the opening goal, Buchanan almost got herself on the score sheet when she met the corner sent in by Maika Hamano, but her volley at the far post was just too high and it went over the bar.

Having scored a trademark Cuthbert strike on international duty with Scotland, the midfielder looked to find the back of the net now back with the Blues. On the rebound from a corner, she sent a powerful low drive goalwards which was blocked by an Everton shirt.

Sjoeke Nusken was next to try and double our advantage when she met the ball which had been flicked in her direction by Millie Bright from another Hamano corner, but the German international sent her header just wide of the post.

It was then Nusken's turn to be provider, sending an inviting cross into the path of Reiten. The Norwegian did well to take the ball down and get a shot away, which she fired into the side netting.

Our second goal did soon arrive, though, and it was Cuthbert who found the back of the net. In the 43rd minute, the midfielder reaped the rewards of pressing as she dispossessed Veatriki Sarri, before taking the ball into the box and slotting it into the bottom corner.

Reiten, who recently hit the 50-goal landmark for Chelsea, got in on the goal-scoring action before the first half was up, netting our third in injury time. She slid in at the far post to send a delightful left-footed cross from Nusken into the back of the net.

Looking to add to our advantage

Less than two minutes into the second half, it was almost four. Rytting Kaneryd, who has been in fine form this season, was picked out by Beever-Jones and the Swede forced Everton goalkeeper Courtney Brosnan to push her strike past the post.

A neat bit of skill saw Beever-Jones move the ball into a better position to get a show away inside the box, however, the striker could not find the back of the net for her brace as she saw her shot comfortably collected by Brosnan in the Everton goal.

The Blues were continuously pushing for a fourth and it was Nusken who next went close. She did well to connect with the ball in the centre of the area, forcing Brosnan to push her header over the bar with a fingertip save and out for a corner.

The woodwork denied Chelsea goal number four in the 73rd minute as Sandy Baltimore saw her strike come back off the post after the French international had done incredibly well to unleash a powerful strike from the edge of the box.

It was 4-0 in the 82nd minute with two substitutes being at the centre of the move. Maelys Mpome did well to keep possession, sending the ball into the box where it was flicked on by Reiten, who found substitute Kaptein. The Dutch teenager fired the ball from the centre of the box for her first WSL goal.

There was still time for more as Lawrence found the back of the net from close range, also scoring her first goal of the season, to finish off a well-worked move and a successful evening for the Blues.

What it means

A 5-0 win against Everton means the Blues have won all five of our WSL games this season. We currently sit second in the table on 15 points, one point and one place behind Manchester City who have played a game more.
