Goals in the first half from Mayra Ramirez and Guro Reiten plus a late strike from Aggie Beever-Jones helped the Blues claim a sixth consecutive win in the Women's Super League as Sonia Bompastor's side defeated Liverpool 3-0 in St Helens.
The scoring was opened by Ramirez after 37 minutes, before Reiten doubled our advantage only five minutes later. Then in the 90th minute, substitute Beever-Jones wrapped up proceedings with a close-range finish.
It means our perfect start to the league remains intact with six wins from a possible six now claimed. We remain second in the table, one place and one point behind current leaders Manchester City, who we host at Stamford Bridge next weekend.
A positive start
Two changes were made by Bompastor for the clash against Liverpool, with both Lucy Bronze and Ramirez returning to the starting XI.
A well-timed tackle inside the area by Kadeisha Buchanan prevented Olivia Smith from getting a shot away inside the opening minute, before Liverpool captain Taylor Hinds saw a deflected shot from the resulting corner fizz wide of the post.
The Blues then looked to hit the hosts on the counter-attack as Sjoeke Nusken played a superb ball over the top to Ramirez, who did well to beat Jenna Clark for pace but our forward saw her effort blocked.
A well-worked move saw Johanna Rytting Kaneryd find Maika Hamano on the edge of the box, and she unleashed a strike that forced home goalkeeper Rachael Laws into a diving save. Chelsea threatened from the resulting corner, but our efforts came to nothing.
Two goals to the good
There were more opportunities for the Blues with less than 25 minutes on the clock, with Sandy Baltimore having a strike saved by Laws while Erin Cuthbert then hit an effort over the bar.
We went ahead as the first half neared its end when Rytting Kaneryd's strike came back off the bar. Reiten looked to finish on the rebound but her effort was blocked by Gemma Bonner, however, it fell to the feet of Ramirez who eventually stabbed the ball home.
It was soon 2-0 when Reiten capitalised on a mistake from Laws. The Liverpool goalkeeper looked to pass the ball out from the back but instead found our No.11 and she made no mistake in slotting into an empty net to make it 2-0.
After the interval, it was Liverpool who registered the first shot of the second half but it failed to trouble Hannah Hampton in the Chelsea goal as Hinds' strike sailed over the bar.
The Blues invited trouble by gifting the hosts possession in the final third which resulted in Marie Hobinger connecting with a cross sent into the box, but her header was held by goalkeeper Hampton.
There was then another opportunity for Hinds who unleashed a powerful strike from distance that soared through a crowded box of blue and red shirts to land in the hands of Hampton, with the Chelsea goalkeeper having judged the flight of the ball perfectly.
Our best chance to add to our advantage in the second half arrived after 70 minutes when the ball was laid off to Cuthbert from a corner. The Scottish international hit her effort goalwards and forced Laws to push the strike over the bar.
With only one minute left on the clock, we did get that third goal and it came from substitute Beever-Jones. Wieke Kaptein, who had been given the ball from Ramirez, sent a pass to Beever-Jones in the centre of the box and she sent a composed effort into the back of the net.
What it means
The Blues have now won six games from a possible six in the WSL this season, with 18 points collected. Bompastor's side are in second place, one point behind leaders Manchester City but we have a game in hand.
What next
It is a quick turnaround for Bompastor's side who are back in UEFA Champions League action on Wednesday night, travelling to Glasgow to face Celtic for our next Group B encounter.
We return to league duty on Saturday 16 November when we face Manchester City at Stamford Bridge.
