Nicolas Jackson made it ten goals in 12 Premier League London derbies as the Blues beat West Ham United 3-0 this afternoon.

The Senegal international's composed first-half brace means the striker has now scored four goals in five Premier League matches this season.

And Cole Palmer completed another memorable away day for Blues' fans with a expertly-taken third goal early in the second half at the London Stadium.

Three changes

Enzo Maresca made three alterations to his starting line-up, with Enzo Fernandez returning in midfield in place of Renato Viega, Jadon Sancho coming into the side on the left wing instead of Pedro Neto, and Tosin Adarabioyo was at centre-back, with Axel Disasi dropping out.

As has been the case on several occasions this season, Marc Cucurella moved into a midfield position alongside Moises Caicedo when in possession, with the defence becoming more of a back three, and we would then revert to four at the back when the opposition had the ball.

What a start!

Mohammed Kudus forced Robert Sanchez into an early save but it was the Blues who took the lead inside four minutes following some quick thinking from Fernandez.

Jackson had been brought down midway inside his own half and when the striker gave the ball to Fernandez for the free-kick, the Argentine quickly passed it to the striker, who played a one-two inside our own half with Sancho, before running the length of the West Ham half on the left flank before bursting into the penalty area and sliding the ball between the legs of Alphonse Areola.

The dangerous Kudus almost picked out the unmarked Crysencio Summerville soon after but it was Chelsea who went closest again 11 minutes in when another run from Jackson saw the Senegalese break into the box but this time he laid the ball off to Palmer, who dragged his effort narrowly wide from 12 yards out.

And it's two!

Chelsea's second goal soon arrived and it was a trademark Maresca passage of play. After some neat passing in our own half, Enzo's first-time pass picked out Caicedo in the centre circle and he immediately slid the ball through for Jackson to run clear. There was still work to be done but the striker did so expertly, finding the bottom corner with the outside of his boot to make it 2-0.

The Blues were arguably more open than Maresca would like at times in the first half but whilst West Ham looked dangerous when approaching Chelsea's defensive third, their fans' frustrations grew when Jarrod Bowen wasted a great chance to test Sanchez by firing over and wide from around ten yards out following a half clearance.

West Ham continued to search for a way back into the game and thought they had a goal when Kudus got in-behind and calmly finished but it was quickly ruled out for offside.

Jackson had another effort blocked, following some neat build-up play from Sancho and Noni Madueke, and the recently-capped England international sent a low drive wide of the far post soon after following another counter-attack.

West Ham continued to search for a goal and substitute Tomás Soucek forced Sanchez into a save shortly before half-time, before Kudus rounded the goalkeeper only to be sent wide and was unable to get a shot away as he reached the byline.

Another fast start

Chelsea's hopes of victory were boosted immediately after the restart when another slick counter-attack saw Jackson dribble from inside his own half and after laying the ball off to Palmer, the England international picked out the far, top corner with a left-footed strike from just outside the area.

There was a warning shot from West Ham captain Jarrod Bowen soon after as he forced Sanchez into a save from close range

The Hammers might have grabbed one back had it not been for an excellent goalline clearance from Colwill following Kudus' low ball across the face of goal.

The strength of depth in Chelsea's squad was evident as Maresca introduced Pedro Neto, Christopher Nkunku and Joao Felix, and it lead to a period of constant attacking pressure from the Blues, as Felix hit hit the side-netting with a half-volley and Caicedo had a goal-bound shot blocked for a corner.

Chelsea continued to search for a fourth goal and Felix almost picked out the bottom corner with the last kick of the game following another counter-attack but his effort went just wide and the final whistle blew, with the score 3-0.

What it means

Chelsea's victory at West Ham sees the Blues currently second in the table, although today's London Derby was the first Premier League match of the weekend, meaning the other 18 teams in the division do have a game in hand.

League leaders Manchester City top the table on 12 points, with Arsenal and Newcastle United also on 10 points but currently below us on goal difference.
