Chelsea eye Lukaku's ex-strike partner
Chelsea are reportedly eyeing up the chance to sign Romelu Lukaku’s former Inter Milan strike partner, Lautaro Martinez.
The pair forged a formidable partnership in Serie A last season and fired Inter to their first Serie A in 10 years and now Chelsea reportedly want to rekindle their partnership in SW6.
According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, it will take a huge offer from the Blues to bring the Argentine to London.
‘Chelsea continue in their fight to try to rise at the end of the season with the Premier League, and consolidate a winning project and high level which began to settle last season,' the report states.
‘The signing of Romelu Lukaku gave the English a new offensive benchmark. The London team has now been interested in a great complement to the Belgian striker with whom they have already worked.’
‘The English club has also been interested in Lautaro Martínez, key next to the aforementioned scorer in the Sucetto achieved last season by Inter Milan, where the Argentine has 10 goals in 21 games.’
Baxter dreams of emulating Cech
Chelsea-loanee Nathan Baxter has said training amongst Chelsea stars has only benefited him in his current loan spell at Hull City in the Championship.
Speaking to the Hull Daily Mail, Baxter spoke of the sheer quality amongst the goalkeeping ranks at Chelsea in recent years.
‘To train with people like Thibaut Courtois, Asmir Begovic, Willy Cabellero, and in most recent years Kepa (Arrizabalaga) and Edouard Mendy, you learn and take little bits off each goalkeeper,’ Baxter said. ‘They’re all very different and I like to think I have included a little bit of people’s games into my own.
‘I loved every minute of playing at the academy as soon as I walked through the doors at Cobham,’ he added.
‘I feel like they helped me grow up not just as a player, but also as a person.’
Baxter also spoke of his enjoyment of working with Chelsea goalkeeping icon Petr Cech, who is still at the club working as a technical and performance advisor.
‘It’s crazy to think now that I get to work with both Carlo [Cudicini] and Petr and discuss my career path with them, because they were the guys I grew up dreaming of emulating.’
Pundit believes Chelsea will 'cruise' past Lille
Ex-Chelsea striker Chris Sutton is backing the Blues to prevail in our Champions League last-16 tie with Lille next year.
In his latest Daily Mail column, Sutton has spoken positively of Thomas Tuchel’s men, who are looking to defend our European crown this season after winning the competition against the odds last campaign.
‘Chelsea beat themselves up for finishing second. Then they drew Lille, twice. How's your luck?’ said Sutton.
‘They'll have been buzzing when that draw happened the first time around. To draw them a second time will have been even sweeter, especially when the only other ball rolling around in the pot was Real Madrid.
‘Although I believe Chelsea could have beaten Real, to draw Lille is even better. They're the Ligue 1 defending champions who have been putting up a pitiful defence as they currently sit 11th in the table.
‘They escaped a weak Group G as winners. Thomas Tuchel will know that, with his group of players, Chelsea can storm into the quarter-finals.’
