Chelsea FC Women’s Millie Bright says it’s ‘all to play for’ as the Blues host Manchester United at Kingsmeadow this afternoon, in search of a third consecutive Barclays FA Women’s Super League title.

A win for Chelsea would see the Blues lift our third WSL title in three years, and sixth overall, and Bright explains what the mood has been like in the Cobham camp, saying: ‘It's the same that it’s been for a while to be honest.

‘We all know what’s at stake. We’ve been in this position for a while where every game is a cup final and for us, nothing changes. We’re super excited for another game as we love to play at Kingsmeadow in front of our fans.

‘These are the games we want to play in. The pressure, that’s what it’s like being at a top club and so for us it’s another day at the office and we’re really excited.’

As one of the more experienced players in the squad, our No.4 discussed how the younger players can learn from her, reiterating the importance of the behaviours and culture the team have created over time.

‘Whether it’s a cup final, a league game, no matter what game it is, what opponent – our behaviours stay the same and the quality that we want from each other remains the same in every single training session,' Bright added.

‘It’s just keeping everyone relaxed, which I think we are, but just focusing on ourselves. We want to play brilliant football, we want to put on a show and ultimately get the three points and get the win.’

When asked whether the Blues will be listening out for the scores around the grounds today, Bright explained when the players are on the pitch there is only one focus.

‘For us, the focus has been solely on ourselves throughout the whole season. Obviously we’re aware of other results and the games and we definitely do watch other opponents but when we get to Kingsmeadow, it’s all about us. We're just focused on executing our game plan and getting the job done.

‘Once we’re on the pitch nothing else matters.'

It’s been an exhilarating title race this year, with Chelsea and Arsenal going head-to-head for the majority of the season and the England international added how beneficial that is for women’s football.

‘It’s brilliant for the game, I think it’s shown where the women’s game has developed. You don’t want teams to run away with it in the first half of the season, you want it to go to the last game because it shows the development and how competitive the league is, which is brilliant for the fans.'

When asked what she’s expecting from Marc Skinner’s Manchester United side, who are fighting for a Champions League spot, Bright responded: ‘They're a tough side and we've had really good games in the past against them. I think they’ve had a brilliant season and it’s all to play for, so we won’t expect an easy game.’

If Chelsea are crowned champions today, then the Blues would be the first WSL team in history to win three league titles in a row.

‘We’re just focusing on making sure we get everything right on the day and we get the job done first and foremost before we start thinking about making history,' said Millie. 'It’s something that we drive at Chelsea and we want to achieve but there’s a process in getting there and we have to focus on that.’

The previous two league titles for the Blues have been during the Covid-19 pandemic, with fans not able to celebrate in person with the team, and Bright believes it will be an extra special occasion if Chelsea can be crowned champions this afternoon at a sold-out Kingsmeadow.

‘It’d be massive,' she said. 'To be able to be given an opportunity to do that back at home in front of the fans, who have been absolutely amazing the whole season would be incredible.

‘The fans make a difference home or away and they really have been incredible. When games have been tight, they’ve got us through and lifted the mood. I think they play a vital role in anyone’s game. I think any player would agree that the fans are the 12th player and they’ve been extra special for us.’

Today’s game against Manchester United kicks off at 12 noon and will be broadcast live on Sky Sports. As always, supporters can follow all the build-up to today’s clash on our social media platforms ‘@ChelseaFCW’.
