Without resorting to the old cliché of ‘taking it one game at a time’, Chelsea Women goalkeeper Zecira Musovic talks through the process of reaching cup finals, as she and her team-mates aim to take that step again today.
The Blues are away at West Ham United with another appearance in the Conti Cup showpiece at stake. Musovic was in goal for the 3-1 win away at Tottenham in the quarter-finals and is looking for a repeat result in another London derby.
‘We have to stay in the present,’ she says, cautioning against thinking too much about the final yet.
Tonight's West Ham Women vs Chelsea Women match kicks off at 7.15pm and can be viewed on BBC iPlayer and the FA Player
‘We can say that we want to reach our finals and we want to win everything, but everything is a process and you have to win every game to reach that, which I think is one of our strengths - that we are in the present as a team.
‘We work hard on a daily basis and then we hope we can put that hard work into the game today. Step number one was the training and we had a really good training session. Now the next step is the game, and we'll take it from there.
‘West Ham have been performing really good. In their last game against Arsenal they showed that they're really good at defending and that they are working hard. So it will be a really tough challenge and it will be an exciting game, the first game of the season where we can reach a final.
‘What we show in the game is what the fans can see but there’s the hard work that we're doing on a daily basis, in training on and off the pitch. We're working extremely hard to play these games and put ourselves into a position where we can once again return to a final, so I’m really excited about that.’
Also exciting for Musovic this week is the news she has signed a contract committing herself to Chelsea until 2025.
‘I feel really grateful, I feel blessed, I feel happy to be allowed to be here for a couple more years,’ she smiles. ‘I’m really curious to see what the future will be like.’
