Ahead of his return to Molineux today, Pedro Neto has shared his memories of his time with Wolverhampton Wanderers, including how his matches against Chelsea convinced him Stamford Bridge was the perfect place to take the next steps in his career when the opportunity arrived.

Neto will travel to Molineux as a member of the visiting team’s ranks for the first time this afternoon, having completed a move from Wolves to Chelsea earlier this month and made his debut in last week’s season opener against Manchester City at Stamford Bridge.

That transfer brought to an end his five years in the West Midlands, all of it spent in the Premier League, and that time taking on the Blues as an opponent only enhanced his opinion of the club.

With that in mind, he reveals his experiences of witnessing Chelsea and the Bridge from the outside with Wolves, made him eager to do so from the inside when the Blues came calling this summer.

‘I always looked to Chelsea as an amazing club. I remember one of my favourite players when I was growing up – Eden Hazard – playing here as well,’ said Neto in an interview first published in the official Chelsea matchday programme.

‘It's an historic club, with the players we've had here. I always looked at Chelsea with big eyes, thinking: “What a club”.

‘From the fans, to the stadium, to the city, everything. Even when I played against Chelsea, I could see the passion of the fans and the way the players worked on the pitch. All of that helped the decision for me to come here.

‘Now I think we can do amazing things with what we have here. We have really good players - young players who are really talented. It's just about putting the work together and all moving in the same direction, and we can achieve a lot of things here.’

Although his thoughts are now firmly on the future with Chelsea, the Portuguese winger made his gratitude clear for the chance that Wolves gave him, in bringing him to English football and the Premier League from Braga as a 19-year-old back in 2019.

‘I had the opportunity to work with Nuno [Espirito Santo),’ recalls Neto. ‘He bet a lot on me in the first year. I played 40-something games and things went really well.

‘They had, in my position, Diogo Jota, who is a really good player that I now have the privilege to play alongside with the national team. I learned a lot from him and we had a really good team when I arrived at Wolves.

‘We were in the Europa League and we had the best points total they'd ever had in the Premier League.’

Enzo Maresca has stated that Neto is one of the players whose minutes he is managing at this early stage of the season, meaning it remains uncertain if he will be in our starting line-up today, but he is expected to be involved in the matchday squad in some capacity and it will surely be an emotional occasion when he sets foot back in Molineux as an opposition player.
