Chelsea midfielder Lexi Potter has signed a new four-year contract with the club and will spend the 2024/25 season on loan at newly-promoted Women’s Super League side Crystal Palace.
The 18-year-old now returns to Palace, where she spent last season on loan, helping them win the Women’s Championship and promotion to the WSL. She featured 19 times during that spell, scoring once and assisting three goals.
General manager Paul Green said: ‘We’re delighted that Lexi has extended her contract, she did very well at Crystal Palace last season, helping them gain promotion to the WSL.
‘In joining Palace again, we see that as a good opportunity for Lexi to get WSL match minutes this season to continue her development.
‘We look forward to seeing her have another successful season with Crystal Palace.’
Potter has been at Chelsea since she was eight years old and enjoyed plenty of success with our Academy. She was integral in winning the FA Youth Cup at Under-16 level and was also part of the FA Women’s Academy Cup final victory over Manchester United in 2022/23.
In September of 2023, Potter became the first female player in England to sign a professional contract at 17 years old.
On the international stage, Potter was captain of England’s Under-17s, who reached the semi-finals of the 2023 U17 European Championships. This summer, she featured at the Under-19s Euros in Lithuania, where the Young Lionesses reached the last four.
Everyone at Chelsea would like to wish Lexi every success during her time at Crystal Palace and we look forward to watching her progress over the course of the season.
