Armando Broja has committed his future to Chelsea by signing a new long-term contract until 2028.
The young striker, who will turn 21 later this month, said on completion of his six-year deal: ‘I’m lost for words really just thinking about it. It’s the club I’ve dreamed of playing for my whole life, the club that I support and the club that I love. I’ve been here since I was a boy so it’s a surreal feeling for me and my family.
‘To be able to put on the blue shirt with the first team is a dream come true. It's amazing every minute that you get to play on the pitch because this is one of the biggest clubs in the world. There’s always competition and everyone wants to play so I’m just happy that I have the opportunity to be a part of it. Hopefully I get to play a lot of matches and be a part of the team’s success.’
Broja has already made three substitute appearances for Thomas Tuchel’s side this season, having had a Premier League impact at Southampton when out on loan in 2021/22. He scored nine times in 38 appearances for the Hampshire side, including in a league win at Tottenham.
On agreeing the new contract, Todd Boehly, chairman, said: ‘We are delighted Armando has committed to Chelsea. He is a young and exciting striker and a big part of our plans moving forward.’
Behdad Eghbali and José E. Feliciano, co-controlling owners, said: ‘Armando has so much talent and we are confident he can fulfil it at Chelsea. We are all looking forward to watching his development this season and beyond.’
Previously, Broja was on loan with Vitesse Arnhem where his 11 goals helped the Dutch side to a fourth-place finish in the Eredivisie and the final of the KNVB Cup. He finished the campaign as one of the top-scoring teenagers in Europe.
Prior to that maiden loan move, the Albanian international made his senior Chelsea debut in March 2020, coming off the bench in a Premier League encounter with Everton that proved to be our last action before football’s suspension due to Covid-19. Broja has been on the books with the Blues since the end of his Under-9 season, always playing as an attacker and scoring goals throughout his rise up the ranks at Cobham.
On the international stage, Broja represents Albania and has found the net four times in his 15 full internationals so far.
