Nicolas Jackson was pleased to add to his goalscoring tally this season against the Foxes, as we secured a 2-1 victory at Leicester on our return to Premier League action.
The Senegalese striker was a thorn in the opposition’s side all afternoon, eventually breaking the deadlock after just a quarter of an hour with an instinctive finish following a hard battle to get his chance on goal.
He even had a hand in Enzo Fernandez’s winner as it was Nico’s header that the Foxes’ goalkeeper parried into the path of the Argentine midfielder, which earned the Blues all three points on their travels.
Delighted with his contribution – his seventh Premier League goal of the season – the 23-year-old believes this is only the start for the Blues, as we currently sit third in the table.
‘It was a good performance, we’re just happy to get the three points,’ Jackson opened.
‘It’s just the beginning, the season has only just started. The target is to win every game, try to fight for the team, score and get three points in every game.
‘For my goal, I saw the defender had anticipated my move so I needed to be quick and I know the goalkeeper is good so that’s why I tried to finish as soon as possible. I’m happy here – I’m happy with my friends and my teammates. I’m trying to help the team each game.’
The hosts made it difficult for the Blues with Leicester sitting back and waiting for their opportunity to pounce, but Jackson’s side held firm and remained patient during large spells of possession – something he credits his head coach, Enzo Maresca, for.
He continued: ‘We listened to what the coach said, followed the instructions and we won the game. He helps us to be in the game as always.
‘We know that they know we have a lot of quality at the back and front, so normally we expect this. It was good and the most important thing is that we won the game and we focus on the next one.’
Jackson also enjoyed the challenge posed by the cold and windy conditions at the King Power Stadium, a stark contrast to the weather he experienced during the international break in Senegal.
‘It was cold!’ he laughed. ‘Two days ago I was in my home town and there it was like 20 degrees and now it’s not that here! Football isn’t about weather though, we fought for it and we won the game.’
With the blustery conditions, he was all the more appreciative of the supporters who made the journey, saving a special mention for them after full-time.
He added: ‘Keep supporting us every game and we’ll fight for the badge, fight for the team and we’ll go until the end of the season. We’ll fight for where we want to be.’
