With three goals in just four pre-season fixtures, it’s fair to say that Christopher Nkunku has settled in well to life as a Chelsea player.
The forward, who arrived from RB Leipzig this summer, has impressed for the Blues throughout our summer tour of America and the French international has explained how well he’s settled into the group and working under Mauricio Pochettino.
With such a strong start to life as a Chelsea player, Nkunku is now hoping to take his fine form into our Premier League opener against Liverpool in a couple of weeks.
‘I feel good!’ Nkunku said with a beaming smile shortly after our victory over Fulham in Maryland.
‘Things are going well in pre-season, we won the game and we won the trophy so we are very happy. We wanted to perform well as a team, we did that and for me it was the perfect afternoon.
‘Winning games breeds confidence and that’s what we’ve been trying to achieve throughout pre-season. Now we have one more game against Dortmund and we will prepare well to try and win this game also to help us head into the new season with confidence.
‘I’ve tried to adapt quickly and integrate myself into the squad. We have a really good atmosphere in this team and I want to be part of something here. I feel settled already and I want to enjoy every moment with the guys, which I am doing and I feel happy!
‘We are working well with the manager and his staff. We work in a good way and we all feel very comfortable under him, working hard as we look to achieve our goals.’
Nkunku knew Chelsea was a big club before he agreed to join from the Bundesliga, but that view has only increased for the striker after seeing such a strong turnout from the Blues fans during our time across the Pond.
‘Chelsea is a huge club and that shows with all the fans that are here in America supporting us,’ added the Frenchman.
‘It’s been very nice to play in front of them and to win some games for them, and I’m looking forward to seeing more of our supporters in England for our first game in the Premier League.
‘The pre-season is always very hard work but it’s been enjoyable and a good way for the guys to build relationships on the pitch, we are all very happy in the camp.’
With one more pre-season game left to play, against Borussia Dortmund at Soldier Field in Chicago, Nkunku is already starting to look ahead to our season opener against Liverpool and the opportunity for him to turn in out in Chelsea blue at Stamford Bridge for the first time.
‘I’m really excited to play for Chelsea at Stamford Bridge,’ added Christo.
‘It’s a big stadium, with a good atmosphere and I’m looking forward to discovering the stadium for myself and playing in front of our fans.
‘Everyone is looking ahead to the first game of the season and for me personally, it will be a very special moment. I can’t wait!’
