Noni Madueke took another big step forward in his exciting career by making his senior England debut on Tuesday evening. The winger has since given his account of the big day.

Madueke received his maiden call-up from his former England Under-21 boss, Lee Carsley, ahead of the September international break. Having been an unused substitute in the 2-0 win against the Republic of Ireland on Saturday, Madueke got his chance last night.

Midway through the second half, shortly after Harry Kane had fired the Three Lions ahead, he replaced Bukayo Saka, a huge grin spreading over his face as entered the Wembley turf.

‘It was great to make my first appearance for the national team and I am really proud of myself,’ Madueke said.

'It has been a great week, the boys are great and the staff and players have made me feel welcome. Stonesy [John Stones] has been great with me and Dec [Rice], Jack [Grealish] - it is a great group of lads.’

Madueke did not let the occasion pass him by. He was heavily involved from the off, having a shot blocked barely 60 seconds after coming on. Then ten minutes into his England debut, he exchanged passes with Trent Alexander-Arnold before laying the ball off for Kane to sweep home his second of the night.

‘I tried to go out there and be direct and cause problems,’ the 22-year-old explained.

‘I got an assist for Harry on his 100th appearance - it can't get much better than that. It is fitting that Harry got both goals. It is his night. It is fun to work with Harry because if you give him the ball in the box he is going to get you an assist.

‘Now I cannot wait to get back to Chelsea and to keep performing.’
