As the season enters its decisive phase, we begin our preview of Chelsea’s Sunday home date with Ipswich Town by taking a look at how things are shaping up in the camp of the Suffolk side.

Too much to ask?

Ipswich’s clinical 2-1 win at Bournemouth recently arrested a run of four losses from six winless games on the road for the Suffolk club.

Kieran McKenna named an unchanged line-up for the first time this season for Saturday’s home loss by the reverse of that scoreline to Wolves one place above Town. A defeat that severely damages their aims to stay in the division.

Key man Delap

Their talisman and leading scorer (with 12) Liam Delap initiates Town’s pressing of the goalkeeper, and his strong runs caused most of Chelsea’s problems at Portman Road.

He has also committed the most fouls in the top flight (63) and is one caution away from a two-game ban that would harm their survival hopes.

Another impressive performer is central defender Dara O’Shea, who has blocked the second-most shots in the league campaign, while raiding left-back Leif Davis has had a hand in three top-flight goals.

Avoiding a double

The East Anglian side's success in the reverse fixture – their first Premier League home win since 2002 – came during the Londoners’ leanest spell of the campaign and against a much-rotated starting XI.

And for all their effort and directness, Ipswich were dominated by Wolves last weekend in the places where it mattered – goals, shots on target, corners, possession, passing accuracy, and tackles, interceptions and aerial duels won.

McKenna will be without long-term casualties Wesley Burns, Chiedozie Ogbene and Sam Szmodics. Stopper Aro Muric, who lost his place before the Chelsea game, has a shoulder injury but ex-Blues winger Omari Hutchinson could return.
