Cole Palmer made history during yesterday’s UEFA European Championship 2024 final between England and Spain.
Equalising for his nation in the 73rd minute with an exquisite strike from the edge of the box, the Blues’ very own winger wrote Chelsea into the history books.
Cole’s goal means the Blues have had three of our own players score in Euro finals over the years – more than any other club.
The first two strikes at the showpiece event from Chelsea players came from Fernando Torres and Juan Mata as Spain ruthlessly dispatched Italy during the final of Euro 2012.
During the 4-0 victory in Ukraine, the then Blues duo came into the match as second-half substitutes with Spain holding a 2-0 advantage.
Torres etched his name onto the scoresheet with a first-time finish into the far corner after latching onto a through-ball from Barcelona midfielder Xavi.
The striker then played provider for his teammate’s goal, laying the ball off for Mata who tapped home from close range.
Cole is in good company alongside Fernando and Juan with Chelsea leading the way.
