Pedro Neto was pleased to make his mark during last night’s 4-2 win over Gent in the Conference League – and has explained why he ran over to Axel Disasi after his well-taken goal.
Following Renato Veiga’s early goal, the Blues doubled their lead just after the interval through Neto after the winger lashed one into the roof of the net during a crucial stage of the match.
The 24-year-old explained that it was a move that he had worked on with last night’s skipper Disasi, which allowed Chelsea to kick on as we scored two more through Christopher Nkunku and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to secure all three points in our opening game of the Conference League group phase.
‘Axel and I spoke at half-time about that play,’ Neto opened. ‘It was a good goal so I went to celebrate with him because it was an unbelievable pass.’
Having made an impact, Neto was also delighted to have begun the league phase of the European competition with a win, something he hopes will set the tone for future matches.
‘The most important thing was to start with a win,’ he continued.
‘We did a good job. We conceded two goals but I think it can happen. We came here to play against a good team and did our job, so we’re really happy.’
The winger knows that everyone will need to continue to be at their best as we head towards our Premier League contest against Nottingham Forest this Sunday.
Neto added: ‘In training we have to give everything otherwise we don’t play – and every player wants to play. When we have the opportunity, we have to do our job and enjoy it. I think the team enjoyed tonight, played well and we have to continue.’
