An impressive clean sheet and four goals ensured Chelsea Under-21s recorded a resounding victory over RSC Anderlecht in our second Premier League International Cup group-stage fixture.

Filipe Coelho's side displayed strength and confidence from start to finish, and Jimmy-Jay Morgan opened the scoring in the 21st minute with a brilliant header after a superb curled cross into the area from Kiano Dyer.

We didn't have to wait long for a second as Morgan teed up Tyrique George, who found the net with a powerful low shot from a tight angle.

The young Blues continued to defend well in the second half and our substitutes made the difference in the final ten minutes. Zain Silcott-Duberry finished calmly after Deivid Washington laid off a clever pass and in stoppage time Sam Rak-Sakyi fired home a fourth to complete our victory.

Building momentum

The game got off to a quick start, with both teams trying to dominate possession and establish territory early on – but it was Chelsea who posed the first real threat.

Brodi Hughes pushed forward and delivered a dangerous cross into the box. Morgan rose highest to connect with a header but his effort sailed just over the crossbar.

Morgan was soon involved again as he latched onto Richard Olise's through ball and fired toward goal from a tight angle. However, Anderlecht goalkeeper Michiel Haentjens reacted well to extend out his leg and deny the goal-scoring opportunity.

Chelsea enjoyed an impressive spell of play, passing smoothly to create another effort that almost found the back of the net. Harvey Vale, captain for the evening, spotted George out wide, he used his tricky to weave into the area and his shot rolled narrowly wide.

Anderlecht responded and the Blues produced a piece of crucial defending when Robbie Ure found himself in a threatening position; Alex Matos made a brilliant tackle to regain possession and restore calm to the home side.

Ure continued to trouble Chelsea's backline and forced Max Merrick into an uncomfortable save with a venomous strike. Merrick did well, getting down low to push away the powerful effort.

Going in front with style

Despite the pressure, it was the Blues who made the breakthrough. And what a finish it was.

After pinning our opponents deep into their own box, Dyer delivered a precise high cross, and Morgan leaped to meet it. He flicked a header toward goal that left the Anderlecht keeper with no chance.

We nearly doubled our lead soon after, with Vale's stinging low shot from just outside the area. However, Anderlecht defender Kais Barry managed to intercept the effort and prevent what looked like a destined goal.

Pressure pays off

The Blues were in control and it was only a matter of time until we extended our advantage.

Morgan applied pressure on an Anderlecht defender, dispossessing him and quickly feeding a neat pass to George. He entered the box and hammered a low shot straight past the keeper.

We maintained pressure for the rest of the first half, asserting our dominance. Despite creating more chances, with Donnell McNeilly combining with George, the score stayed at 2-0 as both teams went into half-time.

Full force ahead

The Blues came out after the interval with the same focus and McNeilly had our first opportunity of the second half as he got on the end of a Hughes cutback and fired a powerful shot toward goal, but the effort sailed over the crossbar.

Morgan came close to scoring his second goal of the night after receiving a smart pass from Hughes. One-versus-one with Haentjens, who rushed off his line, our No.9 guided his effort narrowly wide of the far post.

Haentjens then made a solid save to deny us extending our lead. McNeilly left the ball for Morgan, who backheeled it for Vale, and his close-range shot was well saved by the visiting goalkeeper.

Our super substitutes

Coelho turned to his bench to add fresh energy into the game – and his players delivered just that as our two second-half substitutes, Washington and Silcott Duberry, combined to net our third.

The ball was worked to Washington who played a short pass to Silcott Duberry inside the box, and he calmly slotted his effort between Haentjens and the near post.

We continued to work hard for the remainder of the home clash and built up pressure that paid off in injury time.

Once again, it was Washington who fashioned the attack as he found Rak-Sakyi on the edge of the box. He evaded pressure from the covering defenders and hammered the ball straight into the top corner to seal a 4-0 victory.
